School of WokNon-Stick Silicone Steam Mat, Re-useable Steamer Liner

I make dumplings every week for my kids in the steamer over a wok - absolutely love this matt - haven't seen one in the shops before so thought i would give it a try. Much better to clean the steamer as you just lift the matt after use and throw in the dishwasher. It also meant my kids got full dumplings as none of them stuck to the bamboo and broke. Highly recommend it.

This is designed to be used with the matching bamboo steamer. As we don’t have it (or anything similar), my wife used it in a colander over a pan of simmering water, and it works very well indeed. As it’s very flexible, it would fit almost any colander or sieve well.She didn’t use it for dumplings, but for a jam roly-poly; this turned out well, apart from it not crisping up. She was concerned that if there was any leaking jam it would stick to the mat, but it didn’t - it just slid off into the water underneath. She also used it for steaming some fish, and found it was perfect for that too. When I washed it afterwards, I was pleased to find it did not smell of fish after rinsing.Good value – not cheap, but a quality product.

I have owned a steamer for a long time but did not understand why my fish and dumplings would stick to the bottom. I used both oil and parchment paper, But the paper would saturate and the oil just steamed off.Eventually i found out about silicone steam mats especially made for steaming, So this completely solved the problem. I usually use silicone for cupcakes in the oven, But i never realised that i could also be used in a steamer.So far my dumplings have not stuck at all and the fish has come out perfect and in one piece. Even though this is a simple kitchen tool, I would recommend this as an essential part of steam cooking.

Whilst the currently advertised price seems perhaps a bit steep for a thin circle of perforated silicon, this should eventually pay for itself by saving you buying packs of single-use steamer liners.My steamer is a 10" diameter, but isn't a School of Wok branded one. This liner is marginally too wide, but that's no problem (and with the edges folded up a bit, it makes it easier to remove).Nice and easy to clean with a quick dunk and rinse in warm soapy water.Happy to recommend this product.

A bamboo steamer was the offer, but a liner for an non -existant steamer arrived meaning it is impossible to test it in any conceivable manner.

Unfortunately, the product offered is not the product received - the product offered was a bamboo steamer, not a liner. Luckily I have the same size steamer so was able to test and provide a review as part of the Amazon Vine Programme.The liner is well made and comes in a bright red colour. Really easy to clean and better than trying to clean the bamboo steamer or having to line the steamer with parchment sheet.I have also used this in my rice cooker steamer basket. I have steamed vegetables and it much better than using a sieve over a pan!This does run bigger than the bamboo steamer it’s supposed to fit, hence the 4 stars.
