Very happy with this purchase!
Even thought I knew it was used when I bought it, I could have been fooled into thinking it was new.

Wireless keypad and mouse
The wireless keyboard and mouse were purchased as a set (one box) on 12/27/07. They arrived very quickly and I installed them with haste. They were easy to install. I am enjoying the shape of the keyboard easy to use - for a 63 year old who never had typing - the extra buttons on the side and top of the keyboard really make this a step up from my old keyboard - and the mouse with its side to side motion also make its use really nice.I visited my son two days ago and low and behold he has the same setup on his computer - for more than a year. I like the keyboard wrist rest and the angled shape. The price was right and reasonable. Wish I had more computers to purchase more keyboards for. Wireless is the way to go - no more junky wires all over.

Keyboard nice, frustrated with mouse
I bought this set to use with a docking station on a new notebook - the dock covers the keyboard and touchpad on the notebook, so I have to have a separate keyboard and mouse. I love the keyboard of this set. It's comfortable, has a lot of nice quick buttons, and the zoom feature for my very high resolution notebook screen is awesome.Part of my frustration with the mouse may just be a result of my newcomer status to a notebook. For starters, though, the software disk that came with this set wouldn't play - auto run or otherwise - on my drive. All other CD/DVD's work fine. No big deal, I thought, since Microsoft's web site offered the software as a download. Except, the link to the mouse software was also defective. I tried installing a slightly earlier version. The thing I didn't know was that installing mouse software on a notebook in general wants to disable the touchpad permanently. I had NO intention of doing this. I have it working currently where the touchpad has full functionality, and this mouse is working EXCEPT for the sideways scrolling. I'm more frustrated with the computer companies for not figuring out a way to install outside mouse drivers and keep the touchpads functional, but I seem to have mostly found a way around it. Still, I didn't feel that this was the best hardware experience. I really am unhappy that the software was unavailable, though I probably wouldn't have installed it anyway. Just my 2 cents!

Really good, if maybe not ergonomic enough
This is probably Microsoft's best-made Keyboard yet. It feels solid and steady, much more so than previous ones, and well-made. The Keys have great feedback and it looks and feels like a high-end peripheral. The 'faux leather' palm-rest works very well. The mouse unfortunately is not MS' high-end explorer, but the more simple optical mouse. It works well, but will leave some longing for the better contoured, button-rich explorer 3.0. The keyboard shape itself is a bit of a mixed bag, it feel like Microsoft tried to do everyone right, and missed it slightly either way: If you want a truly ergonomic board, don't get this; you can beat MS' own Optical Keyboard Pro (true ergo, and split). This is more akin to a more comfortable standard keyboard than something truly ergonomically styled. But, if that doesn't bother you, this is a good buy at a good price. Wireless works absolutely flawlessly, though the reach could be a tad bit farther.

Arrrgh. Typing lag to the point of madness. Must. Kill. Keyboard.
I bought this due to the wave design (promise of ergonomic comfort design) and the shape of the mouse to replace my expired MK710 whose mouse just decided it would no longer scroll (yes, it's been dropped on a regular basis when my cats have decided to help me work)I've used logitech for longer than I care to say and have usually been pleased. I'm hard on my keyboards and not a good product owner. I eat over it, set my toast and chips on it, take it and run the sprayer over it when I dribble a sweet, sticky drink or spill coffee, etc.Usually, they stand up to a lot, and by the time they die, they've been good soldiers and I'm okay with the death...BUT NOT THIS ONE.Even though I distinctly checked distance specs on the wireless before I purchased, it did not perform as expected or advertised.I do not use it on a desk, I use it on a table roughly 10 feet across the room, that said, it should have performed better than it did. And this sucks, because my husband warned me not to buy it, but I'd done my homework! If I had to guess, the performance failure might be due to older bluetooth technology? ...but whatever the reason, it is a far inferior product if you need a wireless to literally go the distance and accurately capture what you type. There was a maddening typing lag, to the point I'd type at normal speed and almost end up with gibberish as some characters registered and some just didn't.I tried troubleshooting on the geek forums - to no avail.I even tried the manual as a last resort ;) ... no resolve.I can't tolerate that kind of poor reception/performance. When I say you literally could not type an accurate sentence, not one, w/out pecking at an insanely slow, deliberate rate to get characters to materialize, believe me.Talk about keyboard rage after about 2 minutes! The first week of trying to resolve it or live with it and hone my inner patience, I gave up, went to my local BB and bought another MK710, for significantly less than I paid for the desktop 4000 -- and it works perfectly. If you work at a desk with the usb/tower next to your keyboard, it may be possible this product will not behave badly, but I personally recommend you do a lot of online research about the lag, distance and performance issue. For me, I'll henceforth only purchase locally (so I can trot it back w/out having any delay in exchange or refund) and stick with the MK710 for something that responds seamlessly.I couldn't have been more disappointed. I wanted this keyboard to work.I did not send it back, though frankly, I should have. The desktop 4K is, imo, a high tech wannabe piece of junk that is sitting in the box in the basement as a testament to design bovine excrement which takes a front seat to performance. Boo.Logitech could have done better. Oh wait, they did... with the plain jane MK710.

Buying it again
I have had this package for several years and love it. The keyboard and mouse are extremely comfortable. I am using it to control a hometheatre pc remotedly. It is the ideal keyboard and mouse. I have it setup on a tv stand a few feet back from the tv that I use for monitor/tv. I hit the couch with the windows remote when I want to watch/use windows media center. I go to the tv stand when I need to use the computer or program netflix. Perfect hardware for this application.Last one lasted since 2004. It has been a wonderful purchase. I am replacing it as the other ones on the market do not compare unless I want to spend over $100.00.
