DMCStranded Cotton Shade Card - W100B

This is an important piece of kit if you do a lot of embroidery or cross stitch. It is an expensive outlay but if you have a large stash of threads and create your own projects, youll need to match threads at some point and relabel them. This card has the actual threads as samples which makes the job easier. DMC do a cheaper printed colour card which is less easy to use. The threads use the shade numbers, each shade has a bar chart and codes but I have no clue what this is all about, its not explained. perhaps it relates to types of threads in that partiular shade.Some of the cheaper bundles of skeins sold online are numbered in DMC codes (fakes). some have no shade number. You could use the chart to match these threads for the closest approximation, but beware the quality..they often stitch very dull as they are inferior and have not gone through the double mercerisation process. They may not be colourfast or lightfast, dye can vary between skeins. Ive found a few of them soft, fluffy and without the sheen and twill of quality thread. since embroidery can be very time consuming to do.. and one is creating timeless pieces of artwork its senseless using cheap thread. The card could be used to match in Madeira or Anchor brand thread to the equivalent DMC shade. Or you could use the card to find the nearest possible shade or a suitable colour if you dont have a particular thread colour or want to change a colour.The fold out pages are cardboard and a corner of one of my pages was slightly damaged in transit. I would have liked to have seen the backing boards to have been hardback book board or wipeable plastic since it could be more durable, I think an explanation of the coded charts would have been good too. it is expensive but a very useful tool and might save some money on buying more threads and help you use what youve got in your stash. You only need this if you do a lot of embroidery. Since there are few High Street stockists of threads. this Shade card helps you identify the shades for your pattern. Nowhere on the card is mentioned the names of the colours e.g. Parrot Green or Delfft blue very light.

Thought long and hard about buying one of these cards as the price is ridiculously high. But I'm so glad I did buy one. I had dozens of old anchor threads which I have now been able to match up with many shades of DMC threads , which are far superior in my opinion. I can also see all the available colours and just jot down a number to go to the shop to buy one. The only thing I don't like about the card is all the numbers etc at the top of each column. What do they mean. ? Wish someone could tell me.

Exactly what I needed. I have an older out of date Swatch card, and wanted to update it. It's great for matching floss colours to my project without having to look through all the colours at a store.

Colour coded threads with real thread swatches (it's not coloured cardboard or anything) would highly recommend and does seem to be up-to-date with current thread numbers presently 2022/23

Useful as a guide for matching colours to numbers, especially where the colour threads in current collection have no numbers.

My previous version is 30 years old. Needed an upgrade. My preference is for the real sample threads not printed version, which this one has. It's not cheap. But its sturdy enough that i might get another 20 years out of this one. I bought it mainly because it has all the newer threads which were missing in my older version.

Shows every DMC floss - wouldn’t be without it!They do cover the thread samples with the glue used to stick the samples onto the board, so sometimes you have to check a couple of colours against the samples to make sure it is the correct colour.Otherwise FANTASTIC and well worth the money!!!
