This product is a little bit for a 20 GALLON TANK. I purchased it for my 5 gallon system but I also have bio balls as well to help with the bacteria load. If you are considering this for a tank, then it is OK, but remember the more surface areas there are the better it is, so get about three or four boxes for a larger tank. For my 5 gallon planted system that I am creating I am using this plus two bags of bioballs as well as a lot of bacteria. I am also using seiryu rocks in my tank so there would have bacteria growing on that as well. Use fluval biological booster to help cycle your tank. This product in large numbers comes with strength, so get enough.

I bought this to add some biofiltration to an AZOO Mignon 60 filter. That filter is very tiny without much space for filter media. This Aquaclear Biomax is actually too big to fit in the Mignon filter, however, the mesh bag that holds the bio media is easy to cut open, so I just added the bio media to a smaller mesh bag. The bio media itself is great. Very small cylindrical shaped ceramic pieces with a large surface area to encourage beneficial bacteria growth. The small size of the individual pieces makes this ideal for any small filter.

Biomax is a must in aquaclear filters. Only complaint is that after routing maintenance, like rinsing the media out (only in used aquarium water, never tap water), the bag webbing became very thin in a corner. Since you don’t replace this that often, I just used a zip tie to close up the hole.

Very good for smaller aquariums I ordered this pack a while before I was setting up my 10 gallon and I put it in my AquaClear 70 right above the sponge below the other media I have in my filter and it was already growing bacteria within a week once I set up my 10-gallon it took me two days to cycle my tank so yes I do recommend this stuff and it is very low priced but I would use two bags instead of one for a 10 gallon depending on your stocking of fish

We've had our Fluval Edge 6 Gallon system for over a year now. When It was time to replace the Filter Media, our local pet store no longer carried the Edge line replacements. Knowing Fluval and AquaClear are owned by the same parent company, I found out the Edge filter was a re-branded copy of the AquaClear 20 filter. I confirmed this info by checking out a few aquarium hobbyist blogs.I ordered each of the replacement filter medias (sponge, carbon & biomax) and can confirm they are an exact match for the Fluval Edge stock filter basket. Pricing was better on Amazon than other online aquarium suppliers I checked. I had no local retail store to compare prices with either so Amazon deservedly received my business.
