Pain to put on, but works well once on there
This is my second mulching cover. The first one failed after 5 years. These mulching covers all have a common point of failure: the connecting rubber cords that latch the cover to the deck. They dry out and eventually snap. I should have painted them or lathered some rubber preservatives on my first one I guess. The installation is a major pain. It is very hard to snap this onto the deck, even following the directions exactly to the letter. On top of that, you will probably scratch or peel the paint from your mower deck, especially if it is old and the paint is peeling already. The metal latches at the end of the cords will also scratch the paint if not installed correctly, and it is almost impossible to put them on without first removing them from the mulching cover cords first. After you remove them and attach them to the deck latches, then you reconnect the rubber cords by pulling them (hard) to the latches and threading the metal through the rubber hole. That said, this is a must have if you are mulching your cuttings on your mower. In fact, mulching is much better for the lawn than bagging - it is natural fertilizer for the lawn and you don't have to chuck out large plastic bags full of grass clippings every time you mow your lawn. Saves time, money, and garbage bags.

Why did I wait so long??
I have been mowing, then raking the rows of grass for over 2 years!! I chalked that up as saving a trip to the gym. No more!! I bought this mulcher attachment for my little John Deere 100. I followed the directions as noted. Easy peezy until I wanted to lower the large top chute cover. It would not go over the newly installed mulcher. I contacted the seller and I immediately got a returned phone call. I was told that I did order the correct mulcher for my machine. I shot the seller a pic of the installed mulcher. I was told I could actually take off the large chute cover. I removed the pin holding both guards on, leaving just the mulcher in place. It is PERFECT!! I mowed today and not one row of grass was left behind!! Not only did the chore of raking disappear but with the large chute cover removed, I’m able to get closer to the edge of obstacles, patio & trees. I love it!! Still don’t know why it took me so long to order this!

Works flawlessly if installed properly!
There are several reviews on here that talk about it not fitting right. Specifically, not on the top. I even saw one review where someone bolted a piece of wood over it to hold it in place. But if you sctually read the instructions tons and install it as designed it will install snugly and work as designed. The "glitch" is that people are removing the normal discharge chute (plastic) and blade guard (metal) that are bolted to the top of the deck and are held down with a spring. This thing is designed to install UNDER those two. The spring that holds it down then holds the mulch guard down and in place. If installed correctly you can only tell you have a mulch cover installed because the two hooks are visible.Yes, the defeats the pleasure of having the mower narrower and being able to edge with both sides, but I'm guessing JD didn't want a lawsuit on their hands when the plastic. Mulch cover was the only thing between you and the blades. So follow the small instructions provided and if you do this mulch cover installs snugly and won't go anywhere.

Works ok, not as secure as I would like
The cover mostly serves its purpose - keeping grass in to allow the mulching blades to do their thing. But it is not a tight fit that stays in perfect place. I find that the cover tends to slip upwards and allows some grass cuttings to get under and out filling up the space at the bottom of the deck where the cover should sit. This creates a space allowing oven more grass to come out and evade the mulching process. It is possible that it is just a design flaw from John Deere, but is is still frustrating. I don't see any other way to secure the cover, so I'll just keep stopping periodically to reset the cover.
