New parents, rejoice!
Ok, I know what you must be thinking if you’re looking at this product and your baby isn’t here yet…”how lazy do you have to be to BUY something that makes a shushing noise for you?” It wasn’t until my first baby started having a witching hour that I pulled the trigger and I’ve never looked back. This thing is a life saver and a forever repurchase after losing 2 of them on various trips. This is our Old Faithful, she never lets us down and we’re never without her. It’s super simple to use and control (my 3 year old turns it on for the newborn). Just keep batteries handy but they last a long while even with daily use.

Must Buy For All New Parents
Our barber was pregnant around the same time we were. She told us about the Shusher and how it was a miracle worker with her babies. I got one, but we were skeptical of it. How could something that just goes "shhh, shhh, shh" be that amazing. It truly is that amazing. We have bought one for every friend as soon as they tell us they are pregnant. The shush is very gentle and soothing. All you have to do is twist the top or bottom to get it work, so even when you are a sleep deprived zombie at 2:17 AM it is still very easy to use.Note that shushing is part of the sleep tricks many sleep coaches recommend. Having a machine doing the shh for you really helps take that mental load off. It sounds small and silly, but really makes a big difference. It comes with a strap too, so throw it on your diaper bag and take it with you.

The most annoying magic wand ever
This thing is so annoying to me as a parent but in the weeks 2-5 trenches it was a lifesaver calming baby down and helping to get her settled into a deeper sleep. We’re trying to wean off of it at 7weeks because it’s so annoying for us to listen to but I’m grateful we had it!!

It works!!!
I got this just because they had it at the hospital and it worked wonders with my first baby so for my second child I just wanted to have one at home and it works great.

Not Sturdy
It’s really saved us with out son, but the quality is low - our first one broke easily.

Do not buy this model!
If you want your baby to wake up after 30 minutes, and never sleep longer, this is the product for you. There is so much wrong with this machines, it honestly needs to be removed from the market. I have 3 kids. 2 are 7month tend, and I promise you the next time I travel, I’m throwing it out the window.First: the price. Enough said there.Second: who in their right mind, thinks a sensitive turn based is effective for adjusting the sound? Let them sleep with it, babies will be babies and play with it, and crank up that volume until it scares the pants off them, or wakes the other. And if you hang it outside the crop, just don’t touch it, or let it roll, or even fart next to it.Third: the timer on it is ridiculous. We travel a lot, my girls depend on a constant sound to sleep in the car, and you can guarantee the sudden shut off wakes them every single time. It took me a while to notice that they only would sleep the max 30 (the longest this machine will go) until I realized that it kept shutting off.Fourth: there’s something wrong with the battery connection and if you do anything to it, it stops, so you wack it, twist it, stand on one ear to quickly get it back on. And then you put it down, and it does it again.Seriously, do not get this model! They make a better one that’s triangle, still absolutely ridiculous in price, but at least I haven’t had issues with it, and it’s rechargeable and can stay on all nap.

Must have for a new born
This have been a game changer, it helps keep my baby asleep for longer periods of time. I really like that it will continue working for 30 minutes if not turned off.

If shushing works for your child, this is a decent device but the design has issues...
I am not going comment on whether "shushing" works to calm a baby down. You can easily test this out on your child for free by shushing, or trying the "Shusher" app for your smartphone. We've been shushing our daughter since birth, and we think this device just saves us some effort (and dry mouths). We actually still tend to shush ourselves with the Shusher (dual shushing!), but the Shusher takes over when we leave the room after she falls asleep. My complaints are with the product design. When you look at it, it is really cool and sleek. But that's the problem. I think too much effort was made making it look like the pinnacle of industrial design, and less was spent on real world testing with parents of newborns. I turn it on when I am soothing our baby and putting her down for her nap. I place it on the nightstand next to her bassinet so she can hear it while I hold her.The first problem that arises is that the dial large and slippery, and it can be difficult to select the shushing setting with one hand (I think I have normal guy hands) while you hold a squirming crying baby with the other. In the dark it is next to impossible to see the settings, so you just turn the dial one way and if the shusher turns on, you know you went in the right direction (but you don't know if you selected 15 or 30 minutes). If you hear nothing, then you know you turned it off, and you need to turn it one click to 15 minutes, and two clicks to 30 minutes. The second problem with the dial is that it makes a loud clicking sound with each setting. I like to have the shusher run for another 15 or 30 minutes after my daughter falls asleep. If your baby has just fallen asleep, the last thing you want is to make a loud clicking noise. It is amazing what disturbs a child. The next issue concerns the round design. It just rolls off any hard surface. We usually set it on our nightstand next to the bassinet, but we need to put something next to block it from rolling off. Finally, the battery compartment seems overly complicated. You need a Phillips screwdriver to remove the dial, and once this is off, you need to unsnap a plastic retaining clip. One of my pet peeves are battery compartments that are closed with screws, but I guess that is to prevent little ones from opening them and ingesting batteries. If you tighten the screw too much, the dial is hard to turn. Also, that plastic clip looks like it is begging to be lost or broken.I know it would not be as sexy as the current design, but I would have used three silent buttons to select the Off, 15 minutes, and 30 minutes settings (and even more... 60 minutes?). Also, I would have made a design that doesn't roll off hard surfaces. Having it turn on automatically when it hears a cry would be nice.Otherwise, the Shusher makes the sound it is supposed to and it sounds less tinny than through my iPhone. It is a bit expensive compared to other white noise devices out there. Munchkin makes a white noise device with music and a projector for a little more than half the price of the Shusher. But it is not portable (we use both at the same time).Edit: I had to return the Shusher because I could not longer easily turn the dial and it sounded like it was going to break. I bought a new one and so far it it is working well.
